Jamuary 2025 - Tetris Note Generator with Volcas & NTS-1

Prompt. Sudden Change. I am cheating a bit here with the “Sudden change” happening when I lose a game…

Updated this game as well to use more synths.

I kinda missed the mark on abruptly - I tried it but I just like the fade into electronic better!

Starts off with a slow Sabbathy kind of metal thing and evolves into electronic music.

Added the NTS-1 today for a change (ok, that’s not my sudden change part). I took the prompt to see what happens if i completely switch the bass and drum groove. Same progression/pads/melody etc. anyways, was a fun one.

The change is not as sudden and big as I had in mind, and the result is a little messy, but here’s my result of today:

Day 16. Today was my father’s 70th birthday and I got my first eye glasses. I guess I’m getting old. Today I was again lacking both time and energy. I decided that this has to happen in on take. I made few mistakes on performance. I kind of lost control of my fingers couple of times, but it still turned out ok(ish). I wasn’t that creative with the prompt, but I guess there’s one sudden change, so be prepared for that one!

Awesome! Loved this one. The switchup is so great.

Here’s mine for today. Great job on passing the halfway point guys! I’m very happy with having been able to keep this up for so long. Looking forward to the next half.

That change definitely took me by surprise in a great way!

Great energy @Yuteimusic. I love the change up to the slower section. Nicely done.

Nice one @Vidar. The bass in the more energetic section is very cool.

Used jamuary as an excuse for musical experiments again, in this case forcing myself to use my criminally overlooked SSF Ultrafold. Lunchtime I spent 30 mins creating a pretty nice waveform fm’img both fold and shift from the same oscillator tuned… somewhere pleasing. Then phase two of the lunchtime portion… relearn Kontakt (5, eesh… yes I’m behind the times). I got it working so I could home in on some nice sections of the recording and set up some velocity control to vary that. What a pain of an interface.

After that I decided I would make a techy sound the ‘old fashioned way’, splitting out the full frequency sound across a bunch of busses. This was all working nicely so bounced out a few versions so I could freeze all the plugins making my Mac sound like a jet engine.

A low effort DnB track got thrown together using that and then I raided a folder on my hard drive containing things I’ve just dropped in ‘for later use’. Went through a few candidates before deciding on this… Middle Eastern folk performance I think it is. There were more sections that sounded great but they were a bit out of my key. I spliced three parts together to make the intro and bam. Abrupt-ish change.

This was fun, but quick! Improvised this DAWless from the mixer into Zoom H2, changing a few of the settings as I played.

Roland Fantom X-6 and Arturia Microfreak (which is also midi controlling the Alesis Nanobass), and there’s a wobbling loop which is present in the beginning and towards the end from the EHX720 looper, which I recorded earlier today with the Ambient Zero. Sped it up half way through and kept changing the beat. Apparently the drummer took a solo in there too. The end has a sequence on the Microfreak which I somehow recorded as it happened.

#jamuary2025 day 16. Prompt is to make a sudden abrupt change. Sticking with the #synthstromdeluge

Like the use of the countdown! Dig the track!

@Expensive_Notes that sounds rad. That wooshing bass synth sound.

Recorded some sounds of a creek today while skiing, and tried to integrate that at an intro into a sudden change, and again in the middle when I tried to do a sudden style change (at 1:55). Looking forward to integrating some more found samples from the environment.
