Let’s do this! Post your first jamuary jam in this thread!

This year, let’s try something different for prompts — reminding everyone that you DO NOT have to follow the prompts, they’re just for inspiration. So it’s OK to use part of a prompt, a prompt from a different day, a prompt from somewhere else on the internet, or just do whatever you feel like.

Each day I’ll post:

  1. A song title
  2. A mood
  3. A BPM
  4. A key
  5. A color
  6. A pseudo musical sheet with 4 tracks that you can interpret at will
  7. A small phrase

(Disclaimer: these were generated with the help of AI. I wrote a small Python script that generates the prompt, and used AI to suggest me nouns and adjectives.)

Here’s today’s prompt:

Horizons (Reprise)

Mood: Playful · BPM: 109 · Key: B Minor · Color: Sand

Score

1 █ ▒ ▪□ ╌┄┈
2 ▂ ▇ ▇ ▂ ░█
3 ×+·•° ∼~≈∼~≈≈∼≈ ≈~~∼∼◇◆✧
4 ░▒▓█▒░██∷·…

One more thing: this year I’m scheduling posts for 4am PST / 7am EST, since that’s when the day starts on the international date line.

These are cool! I like the “pseudo” sheet music! At the very least it’ll be something to stare at while jamming.

Hi all - happy new year! - been awhile since I have done one of these. Mostly do Techno / EDM or DnB so will largely be ignoring the prompts but aim to do a jam every day. Here’s the first.

Happy New Year everyone. Great to be back – year three, track one. Enjoy. Big thanks to @beto for making this possible. The AI that prompts us… yeah, that’s ironic.

Getting the dreaded “you cannot post a link to that host” error other users have mentioned.

So for now I’m just going to post the link broken up and get it over with.

Hopefully I’ll have it figured out by tomorrow!

May the jams overflow! :alien_monster: :satellite_antenna: :ringed_planet:

EDIT: maybe it will work now that I’ve posted & stuff!

I used a whole lot of stuff and tracked in the DAW for this one. I only used the train, and BPM from the prompt.

There’s the train sound which I took from a white noise device I use to get to sleep at night. Boss DR-770 drum machine, several synths, layers of guitar, bass guitar, and some percussion. I was going to add more ride but at that point I’d been working on it for hours. It’s been months since I really used my DAW so it was good to get into it. I expect I’ll be doing more DAWless than using the DAW this month.

Synths: Roland Fantom X-6, Korg Microsampler, Alesis Nanobass, DSI Mopho, Arturia Microfreak, Korg MS2000R and 4 different guitars, plus a bass guitar.

Pedals: TC electronic Ditto X4 for the train loop, Flashback X4, M300 rack fx, Eventide Space, Hologram Microcosm, Chroma Console, Boss ME80 multi-fx for the guitar.

DAW: Cakewalk Sonar 8.5, Line 6 UX2 interface both of which I’ve been using since 2009!

And yes, thank you @beto !

@Yuteimusic that’s a solid jam! Really nice groove there, and it’s amazing how much you make in only 2 minutes.

@sunblogger I really like that persistent arpeggio and all the little ear candy through the song.

@banalytic this was quite the journey, it made my mind wonder and drift away. What software is that?, it looks really cool.

@dreamindani that’s a lovely guitar tone you got there, so warm and just the right amount of grit. I really enjoyed listening to this!

@FriendlyVisitor I really like how sparse and minimalist the track is, with reverb/delay filling in the spaces. Really chill jam!

@muezig I love that gnarly jam, it’s a solid beat! And I like your setup, I don’t remember ever seeing modular used for EDM.

I went to a friend’s house for a NYE party last night at 8pm, and got back home from the party at 7pm today. But I wanted to record something, so I used the Deluge to make a couple parts with 4 tracks, and I “played” the score sheet using the Faderfox EC4 to modulate parameters on each track.

Recorded straight into a Zoom H6, no post-processing.
