Prompt: Make a jam with a key change
BPM: 127
Key: at least 2
Similar to yesterday’s post, let’s write a jam with a key change. It could be either parallel modulation (C to Cm, for example), relative modulation (C to Am), and upward modulation (C to D), or any other change.
Sorry, already jammed this morning…
Problem with time zones I’m afraid.
Anyway, I followed the prompt from Hardware Jams
"And happy Friday. As the third of January is also National JRR Tolkien day, this weekend we want you to explore your inner middle earth. I would like you to get fantastical with your imaginations.
Tolkien was known for writing long, lengthy tomes and for having created an entire universe, timeline, and history in his mind. I would like you to transport yourself into one of Tolkien’s lands, the time and place of elves, orcs, dwarves and Hobbits and magic. "
I think this sounds like deep underground in a mine…
Ambient with ROAT and NTS 1 Space reverb
Here’s today’s submission! Another ambient jam: This time made with S1gn’s of Life’s new preset pack for Vital: Anomaly 4. Love the sounds in this pack. I wish I had seen the prompt before I started, cause I have been wanting to play with key changes more.
Also: I streamed the process of me preparing the jam if anyone is interested.
That’s awesome. I really enjoyed this one.
I appreciate you posting the preparation video! I hope to get some time to check it out tonight, I’m interested in learning more about your process.
I had fun playing more with the op-z but I found today’s challenge of changing key quite tough. In a good way though! I really appreciate the prompts. But it makes it clear to me how much I have left to learn and to train myself to listen for.
The prompt was published later than I allotted time for so I just did what came to me
Made on an Elektron Digitakt II & Digitone II w/ a Moog Minitaur for the bass. It also has a glitchy line generated by an Erica Synths Bassline DB-01 that creeps in through a Microcosm.
Day 4. Another hard one- I wasn’t in mood for jamming, but it was still fun after I found the time to do it. Not overly happy with the jam, didn’t put much effort today, but still got something out. Didn’t follow the prompt.
Pro-tip: you can use the Master track on the OP-Z to change keys easily! It will autodetect the key based on the bass track (if I remember correctly), and you can transpose it by semi-tones. It’s a really useful trick to write songs from a single pattern.
Still the 4th here…I think I recorded something on the 2nd but that was truly terrible. Missed the 3rd so happy to get something down today. As I am just starting to record live jams I haven’t had much luck following the prompts so this is just what happened today.
