January 8th, 2025 (noise)

Noise contains every frequency in the audible spectrum — which means that it contains all the possible sounds in the universe. Listen to some white noise and you’re listening to all the sounds at the same time, including all the songs you’ve produced and the ones you’ve yet to record!

Prompt: use noise as a starting point or prominent element in a jam

Jamuary 2025 - Dalek Synth Jam With Noise

I modified a toy Dalek I was given (its original function was broken) to become a bespoke synth.
The internals include a Teensy microcontroller and Audio card.

Thank you. It was fun to make as well as use!

that’s rad. Such the perfect toy to make a synth/noise thing!

Did mine early for tomorrow. The noise first starts from my modular synth. I used noise from plaits, mr. blue, clouds. Then the whole thing fades into the sounds from the Ambient Zero running into the Hologram Microcosm.

I decided to just jam on this and see where it went. My wife’s car broke down while driving our son back to college so she’s the inspiration. There’s no shortage of noise!

Moog Matriarch, DFAM, Minitaur, and Subharmonicon are doing the heavy lifting. The rest is Elektron Digitakt II & Digitone II.

That’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in a minute!

It starts with a morse code recording from some SDR HF receiver.
Then in VCV rack there’s a background harmony that was band passed from a noise source.

@Gubna Very cool, great use of noise and drones
@JoeL8X The helicopter sound at the start fits nicely with a news story that just broke here in Australia, a hiker missing for 2 weeks in the wilderness was found alive. This would be great music for that story. Also thanks for your nice comment about the Dalek Synth.
@cabotageksm I love the mix of noise and sounds here. Cool!

Got some really sick sounds and textures! Last half is mournful and dreary, it’s awesome!

So warming. I am at work and the jam directly disapears in a kind that supports the focus on other stuff. It gives you a secure feeling of “For shure i will handle that”. Rarely things like that happen. I listened to it twice and both time the same.
Great work. I am impressed.

Nice chord progression. Which key? Like it.

Such a cool idea to build synth out of a toy. New for me. Great Performance and sound.

My hissy-sounding Volca Drum may count as noise : ) I wasn’t really sure what I was doing here half the time tbh.

PS my posts are being hidden as spam…so I guess this one will be hidden too?

Day 8. I’m still doing this! Again I was very tired after work, but managed to create something. Used two noisy synths and slightly distorted snare to fulfill the prompt. Again, very simple jam and only part. Bass part is little weird. I was too tired to get the performance right, making mistakes here and there. Third try was good enough for today.
