There’s a phrase often misattributed to Hemingway that goes “write drunk, edit sober”.

I like using challenges like Jamuary, FAWM, 5090, etc., to shut down my inner critic and record whatever comes to me. Later I can edit it down, use the parts that I like the most, figure out what fits my style. It’s impressive how much material you can produce when you don’t care if it’s good or not!

Yeah! I was running that vocal sample patch through a double Ring Mod MFX chain, and into more in the MPC Live II. I love my MC-909 and MC-505, but really haven’t gone into them in any depth. Taking advantage of this month for that

Thanks, Carf! Gonna check out the Satisfactory OST. Just saw the MC-909… sold mine years ago and really missing it right now

@Expensive_Notes you have officially won Jamuary and we can all go home now! What is that thing?!? I love it.

@Yuteimusic nice groove there! I love how it keeps growing and getting better! So good!

@muezig oooh, I love this one! So good, love the intro and how it builds from there, I kept listening while working (I code for a living), and it was just perfect to put me in the zone!

@inchoate nice, I really like the distorted samples, it sounds almost like you were picking up a radio transmission while on ship in space. Super cool!

@Gubna sorry to hear about the wasp! The drone sounds great, at least you had some inspiration!

@Ray-Marcher nice, I really like the kick bass in this one. I like how light and ethereal it feels!

@RosaLiechtenstein so cool, I love the sampled piano and also the guitar! And the song has a solid beat, I really liked it!

@BigBigBig nice one, very cinematic, I love the interplay between the bass and the main lead, the main lead and the secondary, and all the different FX.

@FriendlyVisitor I love that warbly effect, great take on the prompt! It sounds eerie and creepy.

@sunblogger nice, I love this exploration! Some great sounds there, and I always think that the first time playing with an instrument produces unique and interesting sounds!

@Soupoclap yeaaah, this rocks! I love the bassline, it’s really interesting how the pauses make it drive the song forward. Really cool!

@Syhr_Samoht I think you triumphed in making this song sounds triumphant! Great chord progression!

@duckramp this is a really interesting one, nice melody and rhythm, it’s relaxing but the flute-like sound gives it an unerving nature — like something’s about to happen.

@banalytic I liked this one, it’s weirdly fascinating. Sounds like water boiling for the tea, very slowly and unsurely.

@elektronaut I’m happy you wrote this, because it’s awesome! Love that chord progression, the fat warm bass, the odd drum pattern, everything goes together so well to make such a beautiful song — there’s hope, there’s beauty. I could see this being used as the opening track of an album, or maybe the last one.

@vidar oooh, this is cool! Was it done on the OP-Z? Really nice buildup, and then a lovely outro to finish. Lovely!

@beto Its a toy Dalek someone gave me. It used to roll around and do Dalek things but it broke. So I repurposed it by putting a Teensy 4.1 microcontroller (and audio card) in it, added some touch sensors and potentiometers and programmed it to play music. I especially like how the right arm works, it’s fun to jiggle about…

Haha thank you! Yeah, mine are all op-z so far and will be for at least a few more days until I get back home. This little thing is probably one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, it’s so immediate and fun. And perfect for traveling.

Really enjoyed your jam too and I’m looking forward to the guitar looping you’ve promised us now

@MattSpringer Thanks Matt. I need to add some sound effects to it… Your jam today is cool, I’d add a nice lead to it.

@beto Cool Radiohead type beats and some great blast synth sounds. The Deluge has it all and you have made great use of it.

@FriendlyVisitor This is a great idea. I like how the sounds mesh and slowly become deranged…

@elektronaut A few minutes well spent. Great sounds and a cool beat.

@CarfDarko I thought we were getting 2001 a Space Odyssey to start off with! Anyway it is a lovely piece that suits the title beautifully.

@AndyAffleck Very cool broody background and a nicely disturbed lead… Cool!

@DroneSinger This is great. I love how you made it sad…

@CarfDarko this is epic! Really beautiful song. Definitely worth revisiting and releasing!

@AndyAffleck short but sweet! I like the winding down sound, well done!

@dreamindani nice one! I love the vocals, and also the guitar playing. Nice use of the stereo field, it makes the song feel so full. Love it!

@DroneSinger cool take on the prompt! This is such a cute song, I can definitely hear it coming from a (dying) music box. Clever outro!

@MattSpringer nice, I like the persistent percussion and the bass, they give a sense of urgency.

@nudigoku nice! Yeah, totally fine to use any other prompts, the important thing is to create. And this is such a lovely song, normally songs in 5/4 sound a bit odd (no pun intended), but this just flows so naturally. I loved listening to it!

@erothyme oh wow, this is super cool. I’ve done data sonification in the past, I just finished a project with a friend in Ireland where we used river and storm data to write a piece – also done in Python. This turned out great, reminds me of interstellar (in a good way!).

@immaculate_abyss so cool! I love the name of the song, and it’s very appropriate. Really nice textures here!

@mmk230 oooh, this is fun! Love what you did here, it’s quirky and joyful.
