“Fingers tracing frost on glass”

My first for this Jamuary. I didn’t use the prompt, but I guess “Fingers tracing frost on Glass” doesn’t work when the temperature will hit 30C here.

Today i used the Frequency of the colour teal as source of inspiration. I set the default frequency to 565 hz and used the Korg NTS 2 as OSC for the Behringer Edge and Sequenced something… Tracks and Crave where als used heavily filtered. Very Experimental. Hope you can enjoy.

A few years ago, I dreamed a song.

It was called “Carla,” and in the dream, I thought it was a Ben Folds song I’d never heard before. When I woke up, I dug through his discography looking for it.

But it wasn’t Ben Folds, it was just this complete thing delivered to me by my subconscious. I gratefully finished the lyrics and ended up recording it for an EP I put out on the streaming services, Weak Left Hand.

When I was working on today’s jam, I found an early take of the piano from “Carla” that I ended up not using. At the beginning, I snapped my fingers to make sure the microphone on my iPhone was working, then I played the song.

You can hear those finger snaps as the main percussive element in this track, and the opening piano riff is this kind of echoy, floating thing I pulled in as a hook. The rest is from my nimble fingers on my trusty iPad.

It took a LOT of trial and error to get to this, but it’s been a fun experiment.

So ends the self-indulgent description. Enough of my yakkin’. Let’s boogie!

I didn’t feel like making high bpm music at all today but I just rolled with it and try to make some happy hardcore.

I used the LXR-02 for drums, combined with some 909 samples from the MC-707. Besides gliding lead - for which I used the Uno Synth Pro X - all souds are presets from the 707 with some minor adaptations at most.

I made a mistake with the master filter from the 707 at some point near the end. I felt quite happy with the jam up until that point, so I decided to act like I knew what I was doing.

Day 3

This one is heavy and was clipping the limiter at the end a bit sorry, but not too bad.

Still getting my head around this setup using Reaper’s ‘REASTREAM’ VST to stream my Ableton audio into OSB, but they say learning is fun!

170 BPM in A♭ major. Interesting tempo, not one I’ve used often. Thanks for listening!

I started out recording something with the BPM 170 and recorded several jams before I realized my Zoom H2 was only recording through it’s mic, and not the line in. Whoops! Just as well as I liked this one the most! DAWless save for mastering.
I recorded a sequence on the Microfreak (into the Microcosm for glitching) which is also running out to the Korg MS2000R for that light synth bird-like sound. The Medusa has another sequence and that’s running out to the Alesis Nanobass. Roland Fantom X6 is running the beat, which I looped it into the Ditto X4 to trigger the reverse beat with my feet here and there. I think the BPM is 120, but I had the Medusa synth and Nanobass at 60. There’s some fx on each except the Nanobass via Flashback X4, Eventide Space, Chroma Console, and TC M300 Rack FX.

Great stuff guys! I enjoyed trying to make something in 170 BPM today. It was a fun challenge for me. I must say I really like the prompts so far, and how you can chose to focus on the part that inspires you for each day.

Keep up the creativity people!

I had a lot of fun with this one:

I used the classic trick of nudging the snare before the beat to give a sense of urgency.

Love hearing all the diverse takes on the prompts here.

I wasn’t really feeling it today for some reason. I was initially excited to chop up some breaks, but ended up scrapping many, many tracks before finally stripping it down completely. But hey, sometimes it’s just like that.

Eb mixolydian, which is basically Ab major if you squint a little.

It’s a grey day here and I was really feeling the frost quote. SOMA Terra through Cosmos, a bunch of pedals, and the Torso S-4.

I used the tempo and key, plus I reckon you could describe this as ‘urgent’.

I used the Sting 2 sequencer for the acid line, playing it live and then cutting it into chunks. The lead line was played using an arpeggiator and a midi kalimba.
